From Muggle to Mrs., discover every magical moment and Harry Potter detail that transcend us into the Wizardry World! Real bride Zugey said I do to her soul mate Jason last November and we couldn’t be more obsessed with these two! Everything from their marriage proposal to their wedding decor was thoughtfully planned out and creative! Read along as Zugey answers questions we were dying to know!
How Did You Two Meet?
My husband and I went to the same high school. However, we never spoke to one another until he made a charitable donation from my teacher’s Wishlist later in life as adults! I thanked him online, and we began conversing with one another. One of my culminating activities as a teacher is our novel study, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and my now husband was aware. So, for our first date, my husband surprised me by taking us to the LeakyCon! We both bonded over our mutual love of the Wizarding World!
My Dream Dress: Morilee 2307
When I first met Daniella, my bridal consultant, I knew she would help me find the dress of my dreams. She dawned a Deathly Hallows mask, so I knew she’d understand the Harry Potter them. I knew I wanted sleeves, and I initially informed my consultant that I didn’t care for too much lace unless it was floral (to match the Forbidden Forest aesthetic of our florals.) Daniella brought several gowns, and she then said, “I also brought in a wild card that I’d like you to try on too.” The other dresses I tried on didn’t work out, but the wild card was the dress that my mom, my sister, and I unanimously agreed on. Daniella then tells me, “The dress you’ve tried on comes with ivory underlining too, but you have on MOONSTONE….” It was at that moment the stars aligned! We then paired it with a cape veil, and it was magical!
A Potter Proposal
On the morning of Christmas Eve, my husband had a present waiting for me in bed the moment I woke up. It was a small gift that included a scroll that challenged me to a wizarding quest! This journey took me to the secret portal of the Ministry of Magic (the toilet!), the great hall (dining room), Dobby’s socks, our mini-Mirror of Erised (in the kitchen nook), etc.! Until we reached the “winged room” where I needed to find the key with the broken wing! My husband turned our guest room into “the winged” room, with actual winged keys hanging from the ceiling. This key then unlocked the closet with a massively wrapped gift. Once I opened the present, a smaller wrapped gift was inside. I must have opened ten boxes until I finally reached the last one. A note inside the final gift-wrapped box said, “As you follow your path, you may find this to be true: Magic is not a thing you get, but something that you do.” There was a book of the UK edition of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. As I opened the book, I found that the pages hollowed out in the shape of a heart that stopped with chapter The Unbreakable Vow. My husband took out the ring from the book, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him.
Naturally, we both decided to incorporate Harry Potter touches into our wedding! I was adamant about making sure I didn’t cross the line into too kiddish or corny! Our ultimate goal was to achieve an elegant, timeless wedding with subtlety borrowed from the wizarding world. I’m a Slytherin, and my favorite color is black, so our wedding colors were black, ivory, dark green, and gold.
A Pensieve Memory
Initially, we were looking to avoid reciting our written vows in front of our loved ones & make this moment a private between us two. Three weeks before our wedding, we changed our minds and shared them amongst our family & friends during our ceremony. We are so glad we made this decision in the end, as it became one of the most appreciated moments that everyone else was able to witness.
We played homage to aspects of our lives for the wedding. One of these details was our wedding invitations that resembled my grandmother’s from the 1940s. Our Daily Prophet menu/ceremony cards tributed to our newly blended furry family. And, of course, the nod towards all the Harry Potter details!
Advice for Muggle Brides
Yes! Make sure you hire vendors you trust to execute your vision. If you find yourself constantly going back and forth on whether to spend more money for a vendor/service, go for it, especially a wedding coordinator! You will not regret it in the end. I had the best wedding ever! I was grinning from ear to ear all day and all night long without a worry in the world, and I attribute that to my amazing wedding vendors.
